Types of Insurance

FARM

The farm policy offers the industry’s broadest and most comprehensive products available to the modern day horse farm owner at a competitive price. Coverage can be custom-designed to meet the specific needs of your operation – from a small acreage pleasure farm to a multiple location commercial farm.

Equine Care, Custody and Control Insurance: Equine Care, Custody and Control insurance is an essential coverage for all horse operations which involve non-owned horses, including boarding, breeding and training. Standard General Liability Insurance excludes coverage for personal property (horses are an example) in your Care, Custody and Control. This coverage fills this void by promising to pay all sums you are legally obligated to pay for damage to non-owned horses in your Care, Custody and Control. This coverage does not apply to horses that you own or lease. Mortality Insurance is designed for these needs.

Your policy will cover up to the chosen policy limits for the injury, theft or death of the horses in your Care, Custody and Control. Policy limits are available up to $2,500,000 per horse and $5,000,000 maximum loss per policy year.

Defense costs for lawsuits are also included in this coverage.

HORSE

Full Mortality: Livestock Mortality is a Life Insurance policy for your horse, with you as beneficiary. It is an "All Risk" policy, which will cover death from any cause, subject to certain exclusions which are stated in the policy. Livestock Mortality insurance will also pay you if your horse is stolen.

Major Medical Endorsement: This insurance reimburses the veterinarian's fees for surgery, major illness and disease. Major Medical reimburses reasonable and customary charges necessitated by the accident, injury or illness of your insured horse. There is a $250 deductible for each claim and a $7,500 limit per animal per year. This coverage will help you control veterinary expenses for unforeseen events related to the health of your horse.

Loss of Use Endorsement: This insurance reimburses you for 75% of your horse's value in the event he becomes permanently incapable of fulfilling the functions for which he is used, as stated on your policy. Both Accidental Loss of Use and Full Loss of Use insurance coverages are available.

LIABILITY

Personal Horse Owner's Liability Coverage (PHO): This coverage is designed to provide coverage for bodily injury or property damage to third parties caused by the insured’s personally owned horse when used for non-commercial purposes.

Equine Commercial General Liability (CGL): This coverage is important if you perform any commercial equine activities such as boarding, instruction, training, breeding, horse sales, etc. Coverage can be extended to activities off-premises, such as a riding instructor or trainer who travels to clients’ facilities but also works out of their own location.

Becky Thornton began working as an insurance agent for Connaway & Associates Equine Insurance Services, Inc. in 2002. She owns and operates Hunter Valley Farm and has vast experience in training and riding competition hunters and jumpers on a national level. Becky is a current member of the United States Equestrian Federation and United States Hunter Jumper Association and holds her large R Steward license.
